2021-2023. Paint on bedsheet, steel chain, zip ties, yarn, painted sidewalk fragments.
Painted excerpts from my ‘7 Days a Diamond’ diary that mentioned Keith Stafford and his friends onto a bedsheet. In temporal order, each entry condenses the complex performance to a single focal point: my relationship to him. Painted in red, I reference the heart in love, protest, and murder. A heavy chain pulls at the fragile strings that keep the banner suspended. The weight is only counteracted by two pieces from ‘Sidewalk Ens’, loving words from two unhoused friends of mine painted on concrete.
Hidden from street view but unveiled from inside the museum, the banner inverts themes of protest spectacle while inviting viewers to consider where houseless stories and bodies are allowed to exist, if at all.
