7 Days a Diamond
2020 - 2021. Durational participatory performance using livestream, news media, social engagement, photography, soundscape, poetry, installation, and found objects.
"7 Days a Diamond" is a durational participatory performance that explores themes of isolation and objectification experienced by the unhoused and incarcerated, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. For one week, I lived in a storefront window, fully accessible to the public with no privacy. The performance incorporated livestreaming, news media, social engagement, soundscapes, poetry, installation, and found objects.
Throughout the week, I documented my experiences in a diary, which was later shared as a public reading event. The livestream allowed viewers to witness daily activities such as eating, sleeping, and even using the restroom. Interaction with the community occurred through the storefront window, where I passed food to unhoused individuals via a drawer and received donations. This immersive work aimed to provoke reflection on societal attitudes towards marginalized groups and foster empathy and support.
